Michael Jackson Overload

Celebrity Idols

The recent death of Michael Jackson has been the cause of much publicity since his death on June 25, 2009. Many of us who grew up listening to his music when he was part of the family group, The Jackson 5 aka The Jacksons; we can’t help but be affected if not just a little bit by his death. But as with most things these days, the media and everyone else have jumped on the celebrity idol wagon and pretty much changed their lives because of his death.

I consider this to be somewhat unsettling; that so many people have allowed the death of a celebrity to change the meaning of life for them. I don’t mean to sound uncaring; of course it’s tragic when someone dies under these circumstances and others. But, my point is this; what is the meaning of life? I feel sympathy for the many who spend their lives following the status quo of a celebrity! Not one of them will live forever and especially if they live a lifestyle of drug and alcohol abuse. Those two ingredients are lethal even in Hollywood!

There is REAL news out there to be told that we need to hear that will make a difference in our lives in some form or fashion. With all the banks, big car manufacturers, and healthcare, on and on it goes, we need to move on and live our lives. Michael Jackson had a purpose for being here on earth and whether or not it was fulfilled I don’t know, but we can’t stop living because he is no longer on earth.

His life is over, but there are millions and millions of people still alive, let’s focus on them for a while shall we? So many have told what a difference he made in the music industry and their lives. I’d suggest each of us follow not only his example but many other greater, more historical figures that changed the world by their influence while they lived here on earth. Let’s begin with someone like Alexander Graham Bell, Sir Isaac Newton, Benjamin Franklin, Thomas Edison, and George Washington Carver. These are just a few whose lives contributed to an immense collection of important and meaningful attributes that we still glean from today! Their contributions to mankind were not focused on any one particular industry, nationality, race, gender or political party, if you will. The whole world still has them to thank for all their inventions that took time, failures and a life spent being productive in their pursuits of their goals that knowingly or unknowingly to them, have made our world a better place to live.
