~ MY ASPIRING LIFE ~Years ago I aspired to stop living my life according to what "they" say I should. Running to and fro to keep up with everyone else is an empty and unfulfilling life. Since then, I've took back my life to live everyday the way I choose: in the slow lane.

Blog question for the week

This weeks question is about photography.

What do you like to photograph most of all?

1. People

2. Landscape

3. Sunsets

4. Sunrises

5. Animals

6. Flowers

7. Tourist attractions

8. Water

9. Still life

10. Everything

I've listed ten things just off the top of my head. Maybe you photograph other things not listed. Leave me some comments and tell me what is most fun and interesting for you.

Beauty books

I've ordered some beauty books from Amazon and they should be arriving any day now. I'll be blogging about what I learn from them and experimenting with some alternate beauty methods, etc. Well, that is what I'm hoping for at least. I'll also be bloggin about some more of my drugstore makeup from NYC. I plan to show pictures if I can so you will be able to determine whether or not you like the products or not. If you are into makeup like I am you will at least find it interesting.

I'd really like to narrow it down to reviewing a product once a week for this blog  with all the ingredients and other aspects that consumers might want to know before making purchases. So many products these days have ingredients that are not good for our skin and health. I want to do a bit of research and pass it along to you.

Leave me some comments and let me know if there is something in particular you would like me to research/review and blog about it. I'll see what I can come up with. (legitimate requests of course!)

Nail polish pictures

Here is a picture of the Charming Rose nail polish I was talking about in my previous entry.

Here is what it looks like in the bottle.

Here is what the nail polish looks like on my fingernails after 2 coats.

N.Y.C nail polish! Just 99cents at the Drugstore!

I've just found a new brand of cosmetics at the drugstore for cheap! What's even better is because they are good quality for a cheap price! For instance, the NYC nail polishs (they are called long lasting) are only 99 cents a bottle! It was love at first sight for me with the color "charming rose creme". I've had it on my nails now for over a week and its lasting very well. I wanted to get a picture on here for you to see it in the bottle as well as on my nails. I'll  have to see if I can figure out how to do that so check back later for a picture.

Cosmetic tester blog

Like I was saying in my last blog entry, I will be posting about some of my makeup and cosmetics finds and give reviews and tips. I'd like to hear from others out there who have similar blogs and I know there are many. However, I've only seen a few that are for women over 40 like myself. Ageless beauty is something women are drawn too as they age. Women DO love their makeup. It makes us feel pretty and confident.

Of course, we are equally concerned about our hair so I will be posting about a few of the hair products I will be using. Right now I'm using a shampoo and conditioner  with another bottle of stuff called Hair Milk from Carol's Daughter and I'm loving it! I ordered this product from HSN as their 'Today's Special'. It was a great price of $ 24.95 with only $1.99 for shipping and handling and as a bonus I got a free subscription to the ALLURE magazine to boot! I have to admit I'm not liking the mint fragrance.

On the labels it states they are "ideal for all hair types".

The shampoo label states "Invigorating cleansing shampoo. Refreshes hair and removes product build up and daily toxins.Made from natures best cleansers, to help restore hair to its original, shiny, healthy state. "(Infused with Rosemary, Peppermint and Marine extracts)
The conditioner label states "Invigorating moisturizing conditioner. Soothes, restores, and protects while softening hair. Made with natures best moisturizers to  help restore hair to its original, shiny, healthy state." (Infused with Rosemary, Peppermint, Pro-Vitamin B5 and Jojoba Seed Oil)
The Hair Milk is a light solution for adding shine and frizz-free and definition to natural curls. (My hair isn't frizzy nor curly so I don't use this)

Both products are Paraben free, no petroleum, mineral oil or artificial color.(The shampoo bottle also adds SLS/SLES/Sulfate-Free)

I've been using this shampoo and conditioner for about 2 weeks now and still have 3/4 bottle of the shampoo left. I don't use the conditioner everytime I shampoo so I have almost the whole bottle left. (My hair is short) I normally use a volumizing shampoo and even though Carol's daughter shampoo and conditioner say 'purifying they add more volumne to my hair than the shampoos I used before. They have also added some shine to my hair that I wasn't having before too.

Bounce Dryer Bar - Part 2

I've been using my Bounce Dryer Bar now for several weeks and I'm likeing it so far. Just read some pretty bad reviews for it on Amazon. So I'm gonna check and see if/what it does to my black garments. The I will post back about it. But like I've already stated, so far I'm enjoying not having to add anything to the dryer except for my wet clothes. The bar is still stuck on the inside where I placed it, no falling apart or messy stuff on my clothes. Love the smell when I open my dryer!

Bounce Dryer Bar

Anyone who knows me will tell you I'm a sceptic when it comes to trying new things. Sometimes I will suprise myself and just out of curiosity give in and try it out and come to my own conclusion regardless of advertising. I finally broke over and gave the Bounce dryer bar a try. I've used Downy dryer sheets for ever because I love the fragrance and don't like the Bounce fragrance as much. But for the sake of not having to add dryer sheets each time I put a load of laundry in the dryer I decided to give the 2 month Bounce dryer bar a try. The Bounce dryer bars come in a 2 month or 4 month (depending on the number of loads of laundry time may vary) bar.

So far this week I've dried several loads and I'm loving the Bounce dryer bar!  At first I didn't care for the fragrance but now I love how it smells when I open my dryer door. My clothes are soft, fragrant and static free just like I like them to be.

(*** These are my own findings from using the product I purchased myself. I've not been offered anything in the form of money or product for my comments. )

Easter Egg Decorating with Sharpie markers

So I've been spending a lot of time making Squidoo lenses ( www.squidoo.com/decorateeastereggs ) instead of blogging. Lots of fun there! I've been especially busy working on one particular lens since it was Easter time.

A few years ago when my son started dating his wife, she introduced him to decorating Easter eggs with Sharpie markers. I thought this was a grand idea so I decided to make a Squidoo lens about the process.  I love Sharpie markers and pens!!!  I love all the markers and now there is the new retractable pen that I love for my writing projects!  I love the Sharpie website for inspiration of all things Sharpie! Great place for creative people!  www.sharpie.com

In the meantime I realized I had been over cooking my hard boiled eggs for years. I found a video that gives great directions for cooking the perfect boiled egg! I made some deviled eggs for our Easter dinner and they were delicious! They were even great as left overs today!

HAPPY ST. PATRICK'S DAY!

March 17 ,St. Patrick's Day.  Where are the Leprachauns? The four leaf clovers and the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow? I love the river dancing and the color green that goes with loving the Irish! Being part Irish myself I take a fancy to red headed folks but not too much for all the beer drinking the Irish are known for. But being from Kentucky my forefathers were a stickler for some good ole home made liquor known as Moonshine. I think my granddad had a moonshine still in the mountains behind his house and would be gone for days. Then after a while the family would here a loud hollering from atop the mountain and knew granddad was coming down from the mountain to sober up.  You see the Irish part of my family tree comes from him.

When I was in school St. Patrick's Day was known as "ST. Pinchy day" because if you were not wearing the color green in some form or fashion you would get the daylights pinched out of you by everyone who had the inclination to pinch. Just like a bunch of little crawdads pinching you till you would run away from them and find something green to stick on your person. If nothing else tape a piece of green paper to your person to stop all the painful pinches. Sometimes the teachers would fix everyone a green clover shape name tag just to keep all the kids behaved. But like most mean kids they would pinch you anyway cause they said it was not part of your clothing so it didn't really count as green.
